We have a climber…!

Oh how time flies!  Olivia has been getting quicker and quicker, scooting from place to place on her belly, and ending up in all sorts of unexpected situations.   A few weeks ago I found her under the bed.

Then she was starting to navigate minor obstacles.

Crawling over the leg of the computer table

Then just yesterday I turned around in the kitchen to see this:

Climbing onto the step stool in the kitchen

She watched an older girl doing this just a few days ago, and then just copied her!  Incredible.

Time to start moving everything to the next higher shelf…

This stage always had me on edge…all the dangerous things they try to do and no sense yet to know it’s dangerous…once they go through a few falls and bumps they get a little wiser but until then my mommy heart was always beating fast!!

I have been trying to stay relaxed about it, but she definitly does have me on edge! Today She tried to climb inside the dishwasher! (I was standing right there though, so no problem)

Ahhh!!! Lock down the house! My daughter just learned to stand and within 24 hours, pulled both feet onto the back of a chair and it tipped backwards. The table caught it and my husband heard the thud, but oh boy, we learned our lesson!

Oh my gosh! I never thought about the fact that they could tip over chairs!! How are you supposed to guard against that, anyways??

Never clean your house and stand and stare at them constantly! Actually, we are really careful that the chairs are never pulled out from the table at least so if she tries, they can’t tip more than an inch or so. I’m sure that answer will evolve as she gets bigger, but for now, she’s figured out that climbing the chairs isn’t worth all the work that she has to exert so it’s kind of stopped anyway.

That’s good to know – ours could totally tip over if she tried it since the table and chairs are both really lightweight (aka cheap) I will definitely be keeping a closer eye on her…
